With hearts full of faith and gratitude, we gathered at Bishop McCauley House Chapel in Kampala to offer a special sending-forth prayer for Rev. Fr. Ronnie Kawooya, C.S.C., as he embarks on his missionary journey to Ireland.
Rooted in the spirit of “The Cross, Our Only Hope,” Fr. Kawooya follows in the footsteps of our founder, Blessed Basil Moreau, embracing the call to serve with courage and zeal. His mission reflects our shared commitment to pastoral ministry and to building communities of hope in the spirit of Holy Cross.
Leading the prayers on behalf of the Congregation were Rev. Fr. Caxton Peter Mayanja, C.S.C., Rev. Fr. Jawiambe Arnold, Rev. Fr. Peter Qorro, C.S.C., Rev. Fr. Julius Mumbere, C.S.C., Rev. Fr. Nicholas Kisonga, C.S.C., and Rev. Br. Asaba Francis, C.S.C. Together, we entrusted Fr. Kawooya to God’s guidance, praying that he brings the light of Christ to all those he serves.
As he begins this new chapter, we send him forth with our prayers and blessings, trusting in the Lord’s providence, and entrust him and his fellow missionaries to the loving care of the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
The Provincial Superior in his message: –
“Our mission sends us across borders of every sort. Often, we must make ourselves at home among more than one people or culture….”(Constitution 2,17) From the foundations of Holy Cross, the Congregation has been responding to the needs of the Church. This is true of Fr. Moreau in Algeria, Bengal, USA, and the recent Holy Family mission in Papua New Guinea. Sending missionaries has been part of the life of the Church. Drawing from the Saint of the day, Pope Gregory the Great, who, as Abbot, was able to send 40 monks from his monastery to England for the needs of the Church there. The Province of East Africa sends Fr. Ronnie and the other two brothers (Luke, who is already in Ireland, and Nichodemus, who is still finalizing the visa process) in response to the needs of the Church in Ireland. He reminded him that “Our mission is the Lord’s and so is the strength for it.” (Cons. 2,20)

About the Mission
As one of the new mission initiatives arising from the Congregational Year of Mission, the Province of East Africa agreed to send three priests to serve in parochial ministry in Ireland. Fr. Kawooya is the second to depart, following Fr. Luke Muhindo, C.S.C., who traveled earlier.
With the approval of the Superior General and the Council of the Congregation, the Province of East Africa is establishing a mission in the Dioceses of Achonry and Elphin, Ireland, at the invitation of Bishop Kevin Doran. This responds directly to the Congregational Year of Mission, in which Superior General Fr. Paul Bednarczyk, C.S.C., called members to renewed missionary zeal as “bearers of hope beyond borders.”
About Fr. Kawooya
Fr. Ronnie Kawooya, C.S.C., a Ugandan by nationality, is a religious priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Province of East Africa. He professed his final vows on May 1, 2007, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 1, 2008. He holds a PhD in Spiritual Theology from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).
He has served the Province in several capacities, including:
- Assistant Director, Holy Cross Family Ministries, Fort Portal, Uganda
- Assistant Director of Novices, Holy Cross Novitiate, Saaka, Fort Portal, Uganda
- Associate Pastor, Holy Cross Parish, Dandora, Nairobi, Kenya
- District Councillor and Regional Director
- Pastor, St. Adolf Holy Cross Parish, Kanyabacope, Fort Portal Diocese, Uganda
Until recently, he served as Parish Priest of St. Adolf Holy Cross Parish, Kanyabacope, Fort Portal Diocese, where he is presently resident.
