We teach the Minds and Hearts of all whom we minister to in our different ministries guided by Zeal: the burning desire to make God known, Loved and Served.

Holy cross men in education

Educators in faith Men with Hope to bring

We, as educators in faith, impart knowledge and nurture the hearts of those we serve across various ministries, driven by the fervent zeal to make God known, loved, and served. This passionate commitment stems from the unique gift bestowed upon our Congregation by the Holy Spirit through our founder, Blessed Basile Moreau, enabling us to contribute to the growth of the Church and address the challenges of the world. As men with hope to bring, we strive to embody the transformative power of education and faith.

We shall always place education side by side with instruction; the mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart. While we prepare useful citizens for society, we shall likewise do our utmost to prepare citizens for heaven.

Fr. Basil Moreau

Fr. Dujarié was born in Rennes-en-Grenouilles, France, on December 9, 1767. He grew up wanting to be a priest and was a seminarian in Angers when the French Revolution broke out in 1789. Two years later, in 1791, when the Revolutionary government required all clergy to take an oath of fidelity to the state, the seminary disbanded and Dujarié returned home.

Rev. Jacques-François Dujarié

Rev. Jacques-François Dujarié was a key figure in the foundation of the Congregation of Holy Cross. His heroic determination to serve the material and spiritual needs of the poor in France helped to lay the groundwork for the mission of Holy Cross throughout the world.

Father Jacques-François Dujarié, a priest from the 18th century, was a pivotal figure whose vision laid the foundation for the Congregation of Holy Cross. His words reflect a deep understanding of the transformative power of love and education, values that have become central to the Congregation’s mission.

In his counsel to educators, Father Dujarié underscores the importance of love in teaching, emphasizing that viewing students through the lens of Christ’s love makes even the most challenging among them worthy of affection. This echoes the Christian notion of seeing the inherent dignity in every individual, mirroring the Congregation of Holy Cross’s commitment to a preferential option for the poor and marginalized.

The directive to teach religion and virtue aligns with the core values of the Congregation. Education, for Holy Cross, is not merely about academic knowledge but also about instilling moral and spiritual values. This aligns with the broader Catholic tradition of education as a means of forming individuals in both knowledge and virtue.
