Holy Cross Education

The global Holy Cross Education Charism cuts across institutions of learning, including Primary, Secondary, Tertiary Institutions. The Province of East Africa educates through institutions of learning and other ministries. Holy Cross strives to educate both the minds and the hearts of students to grow in Christ’s love and to use their gifts and Talents to make God Known, Loved and Served to make the world a better place.

Rev. Jacques-François Dujarié was a key figure in the foundation of the Congregation of Holy Cross. His heroic determination to serve the material and spiritual needs of the poor in France helped to lay the groundwork for the mission of Holy Cross throughout the world.

Father Jacques-Francois Dujarié, CSC

Reviving Society through Education.

Following the Concordat between Napoleon and Pope Pius VII in 1801, some level of normalcy returned to life in France after so many years of turbulence. However, the social and ecclesial landscape remained desolate. From his travels during the Revolution and after being appointed by the Bishop as the pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Ruillé-sur-Loir, Dujarié saw firsthand the parochial, pastoral and educational needs of the people. Responding to this situation, in 1806 he gathered a group of women, known today as the Sisters of Providence, and in 1820 a group of young men, the Brothers of St. Joseph, to provide Catholic education as a source of regeneration of the Church and society.

Holy Cross Men in education

Educators in faith Men with Hope to bring

Holy Cross’ commitment to education is rooted in the crisis of the French revolution of 1789. When Father Dujarie’ founder of Brothers of St Joseph and Father Moreau founder of the Auxiliary Priests merged to form the Congregation of Holy Cross after witnessing to the crisis of the French Revolution and saw the need to respond through Education. We see this today through the firsthand ravages of a global pandemic, socioeconomic disparities, wars, climate change, and devastating natural disasters, famine, material and spiritual poverty etc. in our countries, imagining what the war-torn country of France was like in the late-18th and early 19th-centuries and what our world is like today we see the vision of Father Moreau alive: using Education to transform society by giving hope to others.

Family Ministries

Holy Cross Family Ministries was founded by Father Patrick Peyton, CSC commonly known as "The Rosary Priest." The organization's mission is to promote and strengthen family prayer, particularly the praying of the Rosary, as a means of fostering family unity and ensuring spiritual growth. Father Patrick Peyton is famous for the phrase, "The family that prays together stays together," which encapsulates the core belief of the ministry. He believed that regular family prayer, especially through the recitation of the Rosary, has a positive impact on family relationships and contribute to a healthier society. The ministry encourages families to pray together, particularly focusing on the Rosary, which helps us meditate on key events in the life of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. The Current President of Holy Cross Family Ministry Fr. Fred Jenga, CSC is a member of our province.
