Holy Cross Identity

Our mission sends us across borders of every sort. But wherever we go, we go as men vowed to God and to one another, witnessing to the Gospel and supporting men and women of goodwill in their efforts to form communities of the coming kingdom.

Making God Known, Loved, and Served

“we go as educators in the faith to those whose lot we share”
– Constitutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross, 2:12

Our motto is: Ave Crux, Spes Unica — Hail the Cross, Our Only Hope! And for 175 years, we have worked to bring the hope of the Cross to schools, universities, parishes and other ministries on five continents of the globe.

The symbolic cross and anchors “coat of arms” of the Congregation of Holy Cross has evolved since Blessed Basil Moreau founded our religious order in 1835.

A Family Serving Families

In 1837, Fr. Basil Anthony Moreau founded the Congregation of Holy Cross in a little town near Le Mans, France.

Love is a key attribute in Christianity. The love of God is a prevalent concept both in the Old Testament and the New Testament.

We share God’s love in various ways in our homes, places of work, local community, and throughout the world.

When we speak of “worship,” we are referring to the life of congregation: attending worship services, creating music, honoring life.

Church life means faith, relationship, discipline, service, responsibilities of church leaders and members, and much more.

The practice of the Stations of the Cross — also known as the Way of the Cross — really began when early Christian pilgrims retraced the steps of Jesus during His last days in Jerusalem.

Discern your vocation and discover the life God is calling you to live.
