In a spirit of joy, thanksgiving, and mission-driven commitment, the Congregation of Holy Cross, Province of East Africa, joined the St. Joseph’s Hill Secondary School community on a special day of celebration and hope—the official blessing and inauguration of a newly constructed two storey classroom block at the school campus in Uganda.
The Eucharistic celebration marking this milestone was presided over by Rev. Fr. Peter Caxton Mayanja, C.S.C., Provincial Superior of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Province of East Africa. He was joined by fellow Holy Cross priests—Rev. Fr. Leonard Olobo, Rev. Fr. Prosper Atukwatse, C.S.C., Rev. Fr. Ponsiano Walugembe, C.S.C., and Rev. Fr. Vincent Balikuddembe, C.S.C.—whose presence reinforced our shared identity as religious educators, shepherds, and builders of communities rooted in the Gospel.

The New Classroom Block at SJHSS
This new classroom block, though modest in appearance, stands as a profound witness to the Congregation’s enduring mission to educate both hearts and minds in the tradition of Holy Cross. Its construction is a response to the growing needs of the school and reflects our vision of providing an educational environment that fosters academic excellence, character formation, and deep spiritual growth.
Beyond meeting a logistical need for additional space and storage, this facility enhances the school’s ability to operate efficiently and to serve its students with dignity and care. In doing so, it enables teachers and administrators to carry out their ministry more effectively, ensuring that each young person entrusted to our care has access to resources that support their development into responsible, faith-filled leaders.

We are deeply grateful to the Holy Cross Mission Center, whose generous financial support made this project a reality. Their continued solidarity and mission partnership with the Province of East Africa is a powerful reminder of our global community and the shared responsibility we carry as members of one Congregation, laboring together for the Kingdom of God.
As we dedicate this space to the service of young people, we are reminded of the words of our founder, Blessed Basil Moreau, who believed that
“The mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart.”
May this classroom block be more than a structure—it is a symbol of hope, faith in action, and our commitment to building a future where education transforms lives.
In all our efforts, we hold firm to our motto, “Ave Crux, Spes Unica – Hail the Cross, Our Only Hope.”
May this new space become a place of light and learning, and may it inspire all who enter to grow in wisdom, faith, and service.
