On Sunday, March 23, 2025, St. Joseph’s Hill Secondary School, Kyembogo, Kyenjojo District, was filled with joy and spiritual renewal as 39 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation, while 59 members of the Friends of St. Joseph Club affirmed their faith. The momentous occasion presided over by Bishop Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, Bishop of Fort Portal, coincided with the Feast of St. Joseph celebrations, marking a time of deep reflection and commitment to Christian virtues.
Emulating St. Joseph’s Virtues
This year’s feast day celebrations were centered around the theme “Be. Do. Succeed.”, emphasizing the virtues of courage, patience, humility, collaboration, and zeal—qualities exemplified by St. Joseph, a man of faith and honor who succeeded in following God’s will.
In his homily, Bishop Muhiirwa encouraged students and the entire school community to emulate St. Joseph’s unwavering faith, hard work, and love. He reminded them of St. Joseph’s role as the guardian of Jesus, who protected, nurtured, and guided him with diligence and craftsmanship. These virtues remain a guiding light for young people today, calling them to live lives of integrity, dedication, and service.
Faith in Action: Nurturing the Whole Person
The Feast Day celebrations were brought to life through a series of activities organized by the Campus Ministry, including:
✔ Spiritual talks to deepen faith and moral values
✔ Parental guidance sessions fostering family involvement in education
✔ Debates inspired by the Laudato Si’ call to care for the environment
✔ A Catechism contest, strengthening understanding of the faith
These activities reflect the Holy Cross educational philosophy of forming the heart, mind, and soul, ensuring that students grow in all aspects of human development.
The Role of St. Joseph in Education and Leadership
As educators, we look to St. Joseph as a model of faith and guidance. In a world facing challenges such as corruption, human rights abuse, and climate change, St. Joseph’s trust in God serves as a reminder that we, too, must place our faith in divine providence.
As Pope Francis wrote,
Each of us can discover in Joseph—the man who goes unnoticed, a daily, discreet, and hidden presence—an intercessor, a support, and a guide in time of trouble. St. Joseph reminds us that those who appear hidden or in the shadows can play an incomparable role in the history of salvation.
We extend our gratitude to Bishop Muhiirwa, the school administration, catechists, and all those who contributed to making this day one of joy, faith, and inspiration. The Friends of St. Joseph Club, true to their motto “Come to St. Joseph, Go and Spread the Love of God”, played a central role in these celebrations, reminding us that the love of God extends to our neighbors and to the environment.
May the newly confirmed students continue to walk in faith, embrace Christian values, and live lives of service and excellence.
