On May 28, amid the beautiful, peaceful environs of Lake Saaka at the Holy Cross Novitiate, Mr. Gideon Muriithi Kinyua, C.S.C., professed his Final Vows in the presence of community, family, and friends. Fr. Cyprian Binaka, C.S.C., District Superior, received his vows and also presided and preached at the Mass.  A reception followed for all of those attending the ceremony.

Mr. Gideon Muriithi Kinyua, C.S.C., was born in Nyeri, Kenya and he is 32 years old. Having met and been inspired by Holy Cross religious at the Dandora parish in Nairobi, he entered Holy Cross in 2012 and professed his First Vows in 2016. In addition to having a diploma in psychology, he speaks Swahili, English, and Kikuyu.

His assignment is to St. Dennis Ssebuggwawo Holy Cross Catholic Parish, Konge-Lukuli, Kampala.

The following day the crowd of well-wishers on the novitiate grounds swelled as Gideon was ordained to the diaconate along with five of his confreres who were ordained to the priesthood. The Most Rev. Robert Muhiirwa, Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Portal, was the ordaining bishop.

The newly ordained priests are Fr. Peter Aloyce Qorro, C.S.C, Fr. Gerald Kityo, C.S.C., Fr. Erasto Moshi Mao, C.S.C., Fr. Nichodemus Hassan Guerino, C.S.C., and Fr. John Baptist Ssemaganda, C.S.C.

These members of this year’s ordination are from the three countries of the District: Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

After Communion, the new priests danced in thanksgiving to God for the grace of their vocation. Afterward, they joined the community and their guests for a festive meal and shared fraternity on the novitiate grounds.

The newly ordained look forward to their first assignments as priests. Fr. Nichodemus Guerion will be part of the staff at Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School, in Jinja, Uganda, as chaplain and campus minister. Fr. Gerald Kityo will join him at Lake View as assistant bursar of the school. Fr. Peter Qorro will be a teacher of Kiswahili at St. Joseph Senior Secondary School, in Kyarusozi, Uganda, while Fr. Erasto Moshi will be associate parish priest at Holy Cross Parish in Bugembe, Uganda. Fr. John Baptist will pursue his studies in education at Kisubi University in Kampala.
