October was the District of East Africa’s month to celebrate as they witnessed the Final Vows of  Mr. Bunjako Charles, C.S.C., and Mr. Agaba Emmanuel, C.S.C., as well as their Ordination to the Diaconate and the Ordination of Deacon Gideon Mureithi, C.S.C., to the priesthood.

The Mass of Perpetual Profession was held on October 28 at St. Dennis Ssebugwawo Parish in Konge Lukuli. Presiding at the Mass was Fr. Cyprian Binaka, C.S.C., Superior of the District of East Africa. The following day, the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, the Most Rev. Luigi Bianco, ordained both Bunjako and Agabato to the diaconate. Adding to the joy of the Holy Cross community, in the same Mass, the Apostolic Nuncio also ordained Deacon Gideon Mureithi, C.S.C., to the priesthood.

East Africa Final Vows Congratulations

In typical African fashion, there were joyful celebrations following both of the Masses. In addition to the family members and friends of those professing Final Vows and being ordained to the priesthood were members of the Holy Cross family, local clergy, and other religious men and women who joined in the festivities.

Rev. Mr. Bunjako Charles, C.S.C., came from a very devout Catholic family where his faith was first nurtured. He entered the Congregation in 2013 and professed his First Vows in 2017. Finding joy in his vocation as a religious, Deacon Bunjako remarks in particular that “living in community is one of the most precious gifts God had granted me.” He has also immersed himself in the apostolic work of Holy Cross, including during his pastoral year at Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School. Deacon Bunjako Charles, C.S.C., will continue working at Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School as a deacon.

East Africa Ordination To The Priesthood

Rev. Mr. Agaba Emmanuel, C.S.C., came to the Congregation after completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Makerere University. His vocation was strongly influenced by the religious sisters who had an important role in his childhood and youth. Grateful for how he has grown during his time in formation, his mantra and prayer to God has always been: “Let His will be done in my life.” He spent his pastoral year working at Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School, and like his Final Vows classmate, he will continue working there as a deacon.
