St. Joseph’s Hill SS

The school was established in 1996 under the center Reg. No.U1403. St. Joseph’s Hill Secondary School is located at Kyembogo in Kyarusozi sub-county, Kyenjojo District 23 Km from Rugombe trading center on the Mubende Fort Portal highway. The school runs on the philosophy of commitment to the harmonious development of the mental, physical, social and spiritual welfare of the student.
The school is a Co-Educational Institution offering both ordinary and advanced level secondary education today and boarding students. The school admits national and international students of all denominations.
The reason for establishing the school was to help the people in the area, especially to save the students who walked long distances (10-20kilometers) for studies in remote areas schools.
The school by then had very few students because the parents did not value education but by the help of the Congregation of Holy Cross, they have convinced the parents to take the children to school as well as teach them the importance of education to children especially ‘’a girl Child’’.
The school currently has over 300 students and still desiring to have more students because the facilities are enough for more than 800 students.

The school has impacted on the community through:

  1. Offering many of the 300 students with bursaries which have enabled parents to bring in students because they have a helping hand.
  2. Employing more than 40 employees and 50 percent are people from the
    community.
  3. Training the community youths in the evenings at the school pitch by Fr.
Richard Potthast, CSC hence work on their physical well-being as well as promote their talents.

The school has now embarked on demolishing the old structures in response to the
growing students’ numbers in the last 2 years. The school now has a new
administration block and classes. Though these are an improvement to the existing
building the demand still remains big in the name of the Dining hall, Kitchen,
laboratories, computer lab, and a library.
